The House is expected to vote to authorize its impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden next week, according to Speaker Mike Johnson.
After his weekly press conference, Johnson told the Washington Examiner that “the plan” is to hold the vote to authorize an impeachment inquiry next week.
While it has been known since last week that the House will hold a vote to authorize the inquiry, this is the first time Johnson has elaborated on the timing of the vote, which has been up in the air.
“We’ve come to this inflection point. The White House is stonewalling,” Johnson said at the weekly press conference. “We will be at the apex of our constitutional authority.”

Johnson also said he believes that “moderates in our conference understand this is not a political decision” but, rather, a “constitutional decision.”
The inquiry was opened by former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who announced it without a vote.
The White House has continually cited how, in the past, Republicans, including those leading the impeachment inquiry, criticized Democrats for opening an inquiry into former President Donald Trump in 2019 without a formal vote.
