On June 12, 2024, the minister presented his approach, the “New Military Service,” at a federal press conference. He stated: “We must be ready by May 2025.”
War in Europe: Military Service in Light of Current Challenges
Germany’s contribution to maintaining and restoring peace in Eastern Europe requires a long-term total strength of around 500,000 soldiers.
Basic training for the new service will last five months, with the option to extend it to 23 months for specialization.
The salary will be at least €1,800 and the program is set to begin in 2025.
